Long ago Buddha summoned all the animals to come to him before he departed the Earth. Only twelve came to pay their respects, and to honor them in return he named a year after each animal in the order that they appeared, thus establishing the twelve-year cycle: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. Each animal has distinguishing characteristics of their personality and behavior. It is these traits that can determine the fate or outcome of events that take place during their year.
So why do we hunt these animals if they are so sacred? Well that's a good question.
During the times of Orb, a great star fell from the sky and landed in the center of mythic Nexus. (This is why we are blessed by the stars when we drop a white amber) From this star, many celestial creatures came forth. (This is why all the animals in mythic are based on the chinese calender) These animals were destructive, out of balance. They had malicious instincts.
Orb tricked the animals to living in these caves. He promised them that they can have leaders here and take over all they want. The animals fell for this and hence they live in the cave. Our promise to Orb was to hunt in these caves to balance the population and 'tame' the animals. This is our duty and why we hunt these mythic animals. So, that's the story behind we we kill fluffy bunnies and cute mice and why we are rewarded for doing so.
